The Lakers’ win summed up in one stat
by Sean Highkin, USA TODAY Sports
It’s not often in NBA history that the Los Angeles Lakers have been underdogs, but they are this year. Their stunning 116-103 season-opening win over the up-and-coming Clippers was unlikely in itself, but not as unlikely as this:
The Lakers scored 76 bench points, their most in a game since April 24, 1988 (84 vs Warriors).

Not only did the Lakers’ bench score 76 points, they scored the team’s last 48. None of the five starters played in the fourth quarter.
