The Rise and Fall of Ben McLemore
Over the last 48 hours we’ve been on something of a Ben McLemore roller coaster, with reports surfacing that he could potentially be the top pick in tomorrow’s NBA draft, followed by reports that he could drop out of the top five. Some of that depends, of course, on whether the Cleveland Cavaliers, holders of the top pick, decide to keep and use the pick or trade it elsewhere. They have been “aggressively” shopping the pick, according to multiple reports, though they have yet to find a taker. They offered both of their first rounders to Portland, for example, while asking for LaMarcus Aldridge in return, but the Blazers quickly shot that down.
McLeMore, a freshman out of Kansas, is considered by many to be the best shooting guard in the class, but recently Indiana junior Victor Oladipo is starting to climb the charts. Some reports have Oladipo going as high as second, where the Orlando Magic are thinking shooting guard. The Magic have been involved in talks with the LA Clippers that would move guard Arron Afflalo to LA, making the need for a young shooting guard clear for Orlando. If Orlando goes with Oladipo, McLemore could drop to the Suns in fifth, or he could drop out of the top five altogether if he slides to Sacramento at number seven.
