Thunder’s James Harden suffers concussion
Oklahoma City Thunder guard James Harden suffered a concussion when he absorbed a vicious elbow to the head from Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace during Sunday’s game.
The incident occurred late in the second quarter following a dunk by World Peace, who celebrated by beating his chest and swinging his elbows wildly even though Harden was right on his shoulder.
World Peace’s left elbow crashed into the head of Harden and he was ejected for the flagrant foul type 2. After the game, World Peace said the elbow was unintentional and apologized to Harden and the Thunder.
Harden was not made available to the media and will travel back to Oklahoma City with the team. His status for the two final regular-season games is unclear.
One of the league’s most explosive sixth men, Harden was averaging 16.9 points entering Sunday’s matchup. He had 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting Sunday.
