Hardaway Jr., Michigan flatten Cleveland State

Tim Hardaway Jr. scored in 17 points as No. 5 Michigan clobbered Cleveland State, 77-47, in the quarterfinals of the NIT Season-Tipoff tonight at Crisler Center.

Nik Stauskas scored 15 points off the bench, making 3 of 4 three-pointers. Trey Burke had 12 points and seven assists.

U-M shot 51% (30-for-59) from the field and made 9 of 24 three-pointers (37.5%). The Wolverines outrebounded the Vikings, 45-27.

The Wolverines wasted little time in their third victory of the season, scoring the game’s first eight points. The lead was 22-12 after the first 11 minutes of the game and Hardaway already had seven points. U-M closed the first half with a 14-0 run and led, 42-14, at the break.

The lead got no smaller than 26 points in the second half and got to as big as 37 with a Hardaway three-pointers with 5:38 to go.

Michigan will now play the winner of Lehigh and Pittsburgh on Nov. 21 in New York.
