Brandon Roy, who sat out this past season and had announced his retirement, has reached a verbal agreement to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

Roy agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal, according to HoopsWorld.com, although he can’t officially sign with Minnesota until July 11.

Roy, 27, averaged 22.6 points in 2008-2009 and 21.5 points the next season. However, he played in just 47 games in 2010-2011, averaging 12.2 points.

He did not play at all last season and announced his retirement in December because of chronic knee problems. But he said last month he would try to play again.
