Trail Blazers Give Up During Game?
The Blazers opened the game with two first-quarter field goals, setting the tone for their worst shooting performance of the season. They made 20 of 64 field goals (31.3 percent), including 5 of 22 three-pointers (22.7 percent) as virtually everyone on the roster bricked jumpers and blew layups.
Worst of all, when it became clear it was going to be one of those nights, the Blazers looked as if they simply rolled over, revealing little-to-no defensive will and seemingly abandoning the game plan. When Wesley Matthews, who made 1 of 5 shots, was asked if the Blazers quit Tuesday night, he stared ahead blankly and answered quietly.
“I don’t know,” Matthews said. “I don’t really focus in on that, about giving up. I don’t really know those words. So I can’t really comment on that one.”
