OXFORD — No. 16 Ole Miss has lost its top two reserves to injury.
Forward Aaron Jones will likely miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL during the second half of Tuesday’s 87-74 loss to Kentucky. Guard Nick Williams is out indefinitely after injuring his foot during the game.
With Jones, a 6-9 sophomore averaging 3.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 16.9 minutes a game, and junior Demarco Cox (stress fracture) both out, Ole Miss’ only frontcourt reserve is 6-foot-6 freshman Terry Brutus. Brutus has played in 11 of Ole Miss’ 20 games this season, averaging 4.3 minutes.
Williams has been dealing with plantar fasciitis for several weeks, and the injury is on the same foot. The senior was moved from the starting lineup to a sixth-man role eight games ago, but is still averaging 9.4 points (fourth on the team) and is Ole Miss’ most reliable 3-point shooter after Marshall Henderson.
Ole Miss plays at No. 4 Florida on Saturday (6 p.m., ESPNU).
