Evans trolls Wade with meaningless steal
by Chris Chase, USA TODAY Sports
On Tuesday, we shared a controversial dunk by Kansas’ Elijah Johnson in garbage time of a Jayhawks overtime win over Iowa State.
Later that night, Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans did a bizarro version of that when he stole a ball from Dwyane Wade in the waning seconds of a double-overtime loss. What did Evans do next? How did Wade react?
Watch below and follow along with our second-by-second commentary. This is the best thing we’ve seen this week.
0:01 — It’s going to end normally. OR IS IT?
0:02 — You know how when light bulbs burn out, they make a loud popping noise and flash brightly, then go dark? That’s what happens in Evans’ head at this exact moment.
0:03 — It’s like a game of playground keep-away, only with fancier dribbling and dumber nicknames.
0:05 — Watch Evans’ feet. It’s like his mind is telling him to stop, but his lower-half is trying to orchestrate a coup.
0:07 — The feet win. And by “win” I mean “take three steps after picking up the dribble.”
0:08 — Evans misses the layup. Karma isn’t just a dancer at the South Beach club James Jones is hitting up after the game.
0:10 — Wade had two options: Either take it down for a thunderous dunk of his own or place the ball and stand on it and pose like George Washington surveying the Delaware. I think it’ll be the former.
0:14 — Wow, WOW. He went Washington. Just goes to show that the old adage is true: An NBA player will always imitate a famed stance by a founding father rather than further humiliate an opponent after a meaningless steal in a double-overtime game. Well played, Dwyane.
