North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston, the team’s second-leading scorer, was taken off the court on a stretcher during the first half of the Tar Heels’ game against Boston College on Tuesday night.

Hairston collided with teammate Dexter Strickland when he was trying to contest a shot by Boston College’s Patrick Heckmann. After hitting his teammate, he collapsed to the floor and banged his head.

“I think it was actually Dexter that did it,” said UNC coach Roy Williams in his postgame interview. “I didn’t think he hit his head on the floor. Dexter said he hit him when I first walked out on the floor (to check on Hairston).”

Hairston was on the floor for a lengthy time being attended by the medical staff with Williams at his side. After he was helped to his feet, he attempted to slowly walk to the locker room, but was clearly lightheaded so he was helped to the floor until paramedics brought a stretcher. He appeared alert when he was taken from the floor to a medical room in the building.
