Van Gundy Not Worried About Job Security

Once again, the Orlando Magic’s season has been overshadowed by drama.

Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy and superstar Dwight Howard aren’t seeing eye-to-eye and tensions reached a boiling point on Thursday afternoon. Rumors had been circulating all season that Howard asked the front office to fire Van Gundy. The head coach confirmed the rumor on Thursday afternoon, saying that he was told by someone in Orlando’s management.

After losing to the New York Knicks on Thursday evening, Van Gundy tried to deflect attention from his situation and focused on how the Magic can turn things around going forward.

“That’s not what’s important right now,” Van Gundy said, when asked about his future with the team. “It’s not. My job security is not what’s important right now. What Dwight wants is not important. What’s important is that we focus on playing better as a team. That’s what is important.”
