Vander Blue’s game-winner edges St. John’s

Vander Blue played the hero for No. 17 Marquette on Saturday.

His game-winning runner at the buzzer lifted the Golden Eagles past St. John’s 69-67 in overtime.

The game looked like it was on the way to a second overtime, until Blue drove the lane and flipped off the shot as time expired. His teammates subsequently berated him after he boasted to the Madison Square Garden crowd. Blue had 16 points, including four of Marquette’s six in overtime.

The victory helped Marquette win a share of the Big East Conference title with Georgetown, the Golden Eagles’ first since joining the league in 2005-06. The Hoyas routed Syracuse on Saturday for the last game in the heated rivalry with both teams as conference members.
