Vanderbilt and Ole Miss best ending in college

Right when it seemed like Wisconsin’s down-to-the-wire, stunning upset of No. 2 Indiana was the matinee to what originally looked to be a slow night in college hoops, the ending to regulation in the Vanderbilt vs. Ole Miss game provided fans with a double dose of clutch three pointers that made it feel like March.

Vanderbilt looked to have the game won after Kevin Bright hit a looked-to-be game-winning three-pointer with 3.2 seconds left to give the Commodores a 78-75 cushion. Then Ole Miss guard Jarvis Summers weaved through traffic and found Marshall Henderson, who launched a desperation heave from 35 feet out that beat the buzzer and forced overtime.

It was one of the best finishes we’ve seen in college basketball this season.

Ole Miss (14-2, 3-0 SEC) rallied from 13 points down with 8:39 left to end regulation, and then carried that momentum over by flooring it in overtime — outscoring a demoralized Vanderbilt team 11-1 — to continue its successful season.

Meanwhile Vanderbilt was again on the wrong end of a nail-biter. Vanderbilt (6-9, 0-3 SEC) fell to Kentucky last week on a questionable non-call. On the bright side, the Commodores made a record 17 three-pointers in Memorial Gym. Poor free-throw shooting (10 of 23) was the difference maker, though. One thing’s for sure: Kevin Stallings is not a happy right now.

Bright was running down the court in celebration. The Vanderbilt student section had a priceless reaction of perplexed, did-that-just-happen looks on their faces after the stunning finish.
