You tend to remember a lot of details when a man lights you up for 81 points.

ESPN analyst Jalen Rose, one of the industry’s best story tellers, recently apppeared on the Grantland Channel to talk about the night Lakers’ superstar Kobe Bryant torched his Toronto Raptors for the 81.

Bryant’s box score for the Jan. 22, 2006 game had him hitting 28-of-46 shots including 7-of-13 on three-pointers and 18-for-20 from the free throw line.

Rose remembers the 1-2-2 zone defense and begging coach Sam Mitchell to change it up. He also remembers that Bryant “didn’t say a word” and “we thought about doing things to him during the game.”

The animation with big heads adds to the entertaining yarn as is Rose’s parting shot: “It’s not like Luke Walton scored 20 on us.”
