While LeBron James and Chris Bosh take on the rest of the world in London as part of Team USA, Dwyane Wade will be recovering from left knee surgery.

Wade’s chronic left knee issues will require a procedure in the coming weeks that eliminated the Heat star from Olympic participation. The U.S. roster won’t have Bulls’ point guard Derrick Rose or Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, who are also recovering from surgeries.

The U.S. national team begins preparation for the Olympics with training camp in Las Vegas beginning on July 5.

Bosh, who missed several games of the Eastern Conference semifinals series against the Pacers, is likely to be limited by the abdominal strain that bothered him until Game 5 of the NBA Finals. He could withdraw pending conversations with USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo, who said Thursday he wasn’t surprised not to have Wade and considered him “50-50″ because of Wade’s knee injury.

Thunder guard James Harden could be in the mix on the 17-player roster vying for 12 spots on the final Olympic team roster.
