Wall Signs 5-Year Extension With Wizards
John Wall, the foundation of the Washington Wizards’ rebuilding efforts for the past three years, has signed a five-year contract extension worth approximately $80 million, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. The deal will kick in at the start of the 2014-15 season and keep the point guard with the Wizards through 2019.
Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld had repeatedly stated his desire to keep Wall within the franchise for a long time and has built a team to complement the speedy point guard’s skill-set. Wall missed the first 33 games last season with a stress injury in his left knee and the team went 5-28, but he returned to lead the Wizards to a 24-25 finish and posted career highs of 18.5 points and 44.1 percent shooting while handing out 7.6 assists.
