What The Knicks/Clippers Can Offer World Peace
Posted By Eric Pincus On July 15, 2013 @ 1:38 am In NBA | No Comments
A number of teams have interest in World Peace including the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Shanghai Sharks (yes, World Peace may seriously consider playing in China).
If he does stay in the NBA, World Peace can get a slightly higher contract from the Knicks compared to the Clippers.
After paying Pablo Prigioni $1.59 million for the coming season, about half of their Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, New York still has $1.59 million to offer World Peace.
The Clippers can offer a veteran’s minimum contract of $1.40 million, about $190,143 less than the Knicks.
Of course the issue is complicated by the $7.7 million the Lakers are hook for. Whatever additional salary World Peace makes playing professionally (even in China), a portion is “set off” from the Lakers.
The Lakers’ debt would be reduced by about $401,000 if World Peace signs with the Knicks. The deduction with the Clippers would be about $305,000.
The net difference between the two would be about $96,000. Would World Peace relocate from Los Angeles to New York for such a small amount, considering the portion he’ll receive from the Lakers?
Barring a larger offer from another team, his choice won’t made on finances. He’ll pick the Knicks, Clippers, Sharks or another squad based on fit and opportunity.
World Peace has already been approached by the Knicks and Sharks. He has expressed interest in playing for the Clippers.
