Shawne Williams, Blazers Differ on Future?
Portland Trail Blazers’ forward Shawne Williams made his first appearance in the locker room before the team faced off against the Dallas Mavericks tonight.
Williams was acquired in the Gerald Wallace deal at the trade deadline. Since then, Williams has been in New Jersey rehabbing after having surgery on his left foot in late February. Three screws were inserted into his foot to repair a prior fracture and two fragments of the bone were taken out.
This is where things get interesting.
Williams has a player option for next year that pays him $3.1 million and he tells CSNNW.com he will opt in.
“It’s all on me. Just to be honest, to me, I’ll feel like I’m going to opt in,” Williams said. “I don’t have no reason not to.”
Although Williams’ deal isn’t anything major, it does have implications on what the Trail Blazers choose to do this summer.
When the Trail Blazers attained Williams, acting GM Chad Buchanan stated they would attempt to negotiate a buyout of Williams, but Williams’ agent told CSNNW.com they would not agree to one.
