Williams Takes Partial Blame for Avery’s Firing

“I feel if I would have played better, as a player, that we would have won a lot more games and he would still be here,” (Deron) Williams said Friday morning, a day after the Nets fired Johnson. “As far as that’s concerned, I feel responsible.”

P.J. Carlesimo, who was elevated to interim head coach, ran his first shootaround Friday as the Nets prepared to play the Charlotte Bobcats at Barclays Center. He said he would make no immediate changes to the lineup or the playbook.

Williams, who sat out the Nets’ loss in Milwaukee on Wednesday because of a sore right wrist, said he intended to play Friday night. The Nets are listing him as a game-time decision.
