The losses are getting more painful every time for the Washington Wizards, now 0-11 and the NBA’s last team without a win.

Saturday’s stung most, as Washington had several chances to win in a 108-106 double-overtime loss to the Charlotte Bobcats. They were one free throw away, then one layup away, then one free throw away, then one half-court shot away.

The end of regulation sent Martell Webster to the line for two with a one-point deficit and 17 seconds left. He made the first, then missed the second. But Chris Singleton grabbed the rebound to keep the hope alive. Jordan Crawford took a jump shot with almost no time left, but Singleton grabbed another rebound and put up a failed layup.

Singleton was again in the spotlight at the end of the first overtime. This one hurt most. On a three-pointer as time expired, Singleton was fouled by Bobcats rookie Jeffery Taylor. Charlotte was up 99-97. Singleton made the first, missed the second and made the third.

Finally, in double overtime, the Wizards were called for a 24-second violation down one point with 15.2 seconds remaining. Then the Bobcats put themselves in good position with Kemba Walker headed to the line and less than a second left. But he missed his first, then made his second, allowing the Wizards 0.8 seconds to inbound and get a shot off. Jordan Crawford’s three-pointer fell short.

The Bobcats are 7-5 and the biggest surprise story of the season after setting an NBA record for worst winning percentage. They already have matched their win total from last season, when they finished 7-59.

The Wizards, not so much. It’s been something weird every game, all 11 losses. Franchise point guard John Wall has a stress injury in his knee and hasn’t played, but veteran center Nene is back after missing the first nine games. Yet the losses continue.

Even aside from all the chances they had to win, the Wizards also allowed Bobcats center Byron Mullens, a career 25% three-point shooter, to go 5-for-11 from behind the arc and score a career-best 27 points.
