The Washington Wizards traded guard Jordan Crawford to the Boston Celtics for injured guard Leandro Barbosa, a person familiar with the deal told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the trade has yet to be made public.

Barbosa’s league-minimum contract expires after this season, and Crawford will make $2.16 million in 2013-14, so the move gives the Wizards a little more cap room to work with for next season.

Barbosa is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The injury was sustained against the Charlotte Bobcats on Feb. 11.

Crawford was unhappy with his reduced role since the start of the new year. On Sunday, Crawford tweeted his December stats: 19 points, six assists, five rebounds per game. But Since Jan. 1, Crawford is averaging just 20 minutes, 8.6 points, 1.9 assists and 1.5 rebounds. Crawford did not play in Washington’s 96-88 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, the fourth consecutive game he received a “Did Not Play – Coach’s Decision.”
