Wright, Watson To Boost Trail Blazers

The Trail Blazers continued to strengthen their bench Saturday when 6-foot-9 sharpshooter Dorell Wright and veteran point guard Earl Watson agreed sign contracts with Portland when the NBA’s free agent moratorium ends on Wednesday.
Wright, a nine-year professional who two seasons ago led the NBA with 194 three-pointers, will sign a two-year, $6 million contract, agent Greg Lawrence said.
Watson, 34, will sign a one-year, $1.4 million contract, agent Mark Bartelstein said. The 12-year pro spent the past three seasons in Utah.
Wright, 27, figures to be an integral part of a revamped Blazers bench that is more talented, but less experienced than last season.
Wright will likely backup starting small forward Nicolas Batum, and although coach Terry Stotts usually had at least two starters on the court at all times last season, Wright will offer a proven and experienced option among a bench whose core is comprised of rookies and second year players. The projected second unit includes rookie CJ McCollum at point guard, either rookie Allen Crabbe or second-year player Will Barton at shooting guard, second-year power forward Thomas Robinson and either Meyers Leonard or Joel Freeland (both in their second year) at center.
