The NBA All-Star game is Feb. 17, 2013 in Houston, and voting for the team ends on Jan. 14. Here’s your guide on who to vote for as the five starters for each conference and why, with a list of who should be the reserves. Vote online at NBA.com/ASB or on twitter by sending out the player’s first and last name along with the hashtag #NBABALLOT
Team: Oklahoma City
Stats: (27.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists per game)
Why you should vote for him: Six years in, and Durant keeps getting better. With the Thunder an NBA-best 20-4, he’s on a career-high pace in rebounds, assists, field-goal percentage, three-point percentage and steals.
The record is quite a feat considering the way the season started, as the Thunder traded a major piece of their core, shooting guard James Harden, to Houston. Durant has aided the transition by embracing new shooting guard Kevin Martin and making the new mix work.
Team: San Antonio
Stats: (17.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.5 blocks per game)
Why you should vote for him: The 36-year-old Duncan is, remarkably, getting better with age. He seemed to be on the decline two seasons ago, but he has everything to do with the Spurs’ 19-7 record.
Stats: (17.6 points, 12.6 rebounds per game, 50.9 field-goal percentage)
Why you should vote for him: After missing most of last season with a torn MCL, Randolph has offered an impressive reminder that he’s one of the best big men on the planet. With him on the court, the Grizzlies’ point differential is an average of plus-7.2. With him on the bench, it’s an average of minus-3.9.
Stats: (16 points, 9.2 assists, league-high 2.6 steals per game)
Why you should vote for him: Paul’s first assist of this season came in the summer, when Clippers officials welcomed his insight on the many roster changes that led to a much deeper group.
